"There is something so beautiful and mysterious in capturing a beautiful union between two people beginning their new life together. Love, innocence, wonder, and emotion blend perfectly with color, composition, and lighting to make the perfect photo." -Tanya Saenz | Metro Blue Photography

I dig wedding photography, so when the opportunity came along to interview Tanya Saenz, a brilliant Austin-area photographer who uses her own unique style to create dynamic visual wedding stories, I jumped at the chance to speak to her. I wanted to know what drives Tanya’s creative inspiration and get her to share her thoughts on a more personal level.
Recently, Tanya's Metro Blue Photography was awarded the 2009 Brides Choice Award, which is determined exclusively by recent newlyweds (brides and grooms) through surveys and reviews. I whole-heatedly recommend taking a look at Tanya’s wedding portfolio and contact her if you are looking for a reputable Austin wedding photographer for your big day. Thanks again to Tanya for taking the time to talk to the Austin Wedding Blog and letting us get to know her a little better. Enjoy the interview!
So Tanya, how did you get started in the wedding business?
Prior to getting started in photographing weddings, I photographed children and families. I enjoyed photographing children and families but felt like there was a missing 'connection'. I was trusted by a very wonderful couple who enjoyed my work and asked if I would photographed their wedding. I photographed their wedding and instantly knew and felt connection. Weddings are such a rush for me. They are fast and so full of amazing moments!
What do you do when you are not shooting weddings?
When I am not shooting weddings, I am hanging out with my husband, Jake and our 2 children Dylan and Molly! I love them so much!! We love hanging out with family and relaxing.
How do you approach the shooting the wedding day?
I approach shooting a wedding with excitement, anticipation, and even feeling a little nervous! I adore the couples who have trusted me with their wedding day and want to make sure that I capture the moments plus the unexpected.
What are your influences?
There are so many. I am inspired by music, other forms of art, and other photographers.
What inspires you?
Honestly and truly, the wonderful couples that I have been fortunate to photograph! Each couple is so unique and their own stories of how they came to find each other are amazing.
What do you think sets you apart from other wedding photographers?
I believe that my ability to bring out the personality and love for each other in front of the camera is what sets me a part from many other talented photographers. For many people, being in front of a camera is always a comfortable feeling. I work to earn their trust and respect to get amazing moments.
5 things you must have on every shoot:
My gear, my comfy converse kicks, lots of water, and my amazing associate shooter, David Bonessi!! He keeps me organized!! And of course, Jake!

What can most people find on your blog?
I blog about the couples I meet, engagement sessions, weddings, and wedding tips. From time to time, I also blog about family life!
What do you love about weddings?
I love everything about weddings....the emotions, the different cultures and traditions, and wedding cake!
What do you hate about weddings?
I can't think of anything that I hate about weddings but will say that it is bittersweet for me when the wedding has come to an end. I have built a wonderful relationship with my couples throughout the wedding process and will miss seeing them. Many have returned to me for 'just because' sessions and maternity sessions.
What is your favorite memory from a wedding - good, bad or funny?
I was shooting an engagement session and was so focused on getting the perfect shot, that I fell into a hedge. Thank goodness I was alright. Everyone had a good laugh!!
OK Tanya, one final thought: What's one goal you have for 2009?
I want to add destination weddings and find more amazing couples and share their stories!!
