2009 is definitely turning out to be a pivotal point in how weddings are being celebrated and perceived by most engaged couples.  This seems to be a year where wedding budgets are more important than wedding fashion and intimate weddings are outnumbering grand scale weddings. While the struggling economy is the driving factor in almost every single one of the trends below, a reduced budget along with a frugal mindset is allowing many couples to look for unconventional (and very creative) ways to save money for their big day.

Brides are beginning to book their wedding dates more than 12 months out so that they have more time to save up and budget in their wedding day.

Couples are expecting more discounts or sale promotions from wedding vendors.

Friday weddings are becoming just as popular as Saturday weddings since these dates are usually cheaper to reserve a venue.

Couples are being more sensible with their gift registry choices instead of signing up for semi-luxury items.

Eco-friendly weddings on the rise and are beginning to become more chic and trendy than all-out-formal weddings.

Vintage dresses or wedding hand-me-down heirlooms are becoming more and more popular.

Couples would rather cut costs in many areas to make sure their ideal, but more expensive priority decisions (such as venue choice) can still be used.

Dessert bar only receptions are trending towards popularity.

More and more couples are streamlining their reception alcohol bar to be beer and wine only.

We see an increase in the number of brides shopping online or at resale shops for less expensive bridal gowns or rentals.
