Pantone has announced 15-5519 Turquoise as its color of the year for 2010.
Each year, the PANTONE Fashion Color Report showcases the top 10 colors in women's fashion, and has recently named Turquoise the "hot" color for 2010. Known for it’s almost scientific tracking of color in fashion, the PANTONE report is often used as an indicator of upcoming bridal trends set to emerge. I wanted to chime in on some things to look for over the next few months and give a little insight on how PANTONE's pick can influence an entire industry. Let the turquoise begin.
Planning brides should be on the lookout for some great turquoise floral and tablescape designs that will begin making appearances early in 2010, as well as turquoise DIY wedding bouquets and wedding invitations. Professional wedding planners should familiarize themselves with confidently pairing various shades of teal and aqua with softer shades of tiffany blue hues. The key will be to accent the decor in a way that is keeps a classic, subtle feel without overemphasizing the turquoise vibe. Too much teal, aqua or turquoise can quickly change a decor from chic to gaudy.
Another reason that turquoise could quickly become popular in 2010 is due to the effortlessly way it adds a sophisticated flair to the modest of wedding ceremonies. Look for more brides to use bold turquoise accents within basic decor to add a refined flair to very simplistic designs. Wedding cakes could see some dramatic makeovers, and handmade DIY designs could see a popularity in using turquoise birth stones to stay current with the trends.
Knowing that turquoise may be a influential color in 2010 is a good indicator that intimate, elegant, yet modest themes will continue to be the trend for the year to come. The year of the simple ceremony is upon us and honestly, it seems to be a a breath of fresh air for the wedding industry. I personally feel that the entrance of turquoise onto the bridal scene is exactly what we need to wipe away the confused elegance of 2009 and inject some strategic beautification into this lovely thing that we call a wedding.
It's time to to take a fresh new look at a classic beauty: Turquoise.

Very informative post! I agree that we're going to be seeing a lot more turquoise floral creations over the next few months due to the lack of naturally turquoise flower choices. Maybe button bouquets will be all the rage! I'm loving them. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI actually have my doubts about turquoise playing big in weddings. The overall design industry didn't go through the tiffany blue obsession we saw in weddings 1-2 years ago. It might be fresh for textiles, but it's well-worn ground for us.
ReplyDelete2010 will definitely be the year for turquoise and aqua. We are already beginning to get some high-level clients request variations of the Tiffany blue hue. Also getting a lot of earthy neutral color requests.
ReplyDeleteGlad you mentioned that too much turquoise could be a bit gaudy. Went to a wedding about 10 years ago that the bride totally went nuts and had EVERYTHING turquoise. Super tacky.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading your blog post, I did a little research and came across this awesome turquoise and yellow bridal shower them at Style Me Pretty. Let's just say I'm a turquoise fan now!

Turquoise and silver make a good color combination. My sister just had her wedding in June of this year and it looked perfect. Brides will love this color.
ReplyDeleteHa! My florist said the exact same thing! Her words exactly:
ReplyDelete"You might want to add in some turquoise hues to your bridal bouquet. Turquoise is really trendy right now."
Thanks for confirming :P
Hope we don't start seeing bride with turquoise eye makeup! Ugh! 1980's all over again.
ReplyDeleteWe're using teal tapered candles for our centerpiece design. Good to know it will be in style in a few months. Might try to add a few more teal/aqua accessories to spice it up some. Great post.
ReplyDeleteNever really thought about this color for our wedding. Thanks for inspiring. I'll have to kick around a few color templates to see if this would work for us. Both myself and my fiance have red hair so this color might not look to good on us.
