Wedding DIY: Marshmallow Cake Fondant

Ok, this is pretty cool! If you're a DIY bride and are thinking about foregoing a professionally-made wedding cake for something personally made by yourself, you're going to love this tutorial on how to make your own marshmallow fondant from the fab Clockwork Lemon.

The entire process is pretty straightforward and simple. The color comes from basic food coloring and the actually fondant mixture is from regular ol' marshmallows you can find in any grocery store.

You can use big marshmallows...

..or small marshmallows. It doesn't matter.

Melt the marshmallows in the microwave for a bit.

Mix in the icing sugar.

Knead the "dough" to make sure the icing sugar is mixed in well.

And all of a sudden, you've got some beautiful DIY cake fondant!

Did I mention that you can store your homemade fondant for up to three months. Pretty cool.

Well there you go. Easy, tasty fondant that you can use for taking your homemade wedding cake to the next level. Have fun with the colors and the ability to create shapes and textures. To see the entire tutorial, click here, and don't forget to save me a piece of cake! Good luck!

  13. The ingredients used in fondant are the same ones used in making marshmallows. Melting the marshmallows is a shortcut, it's a pretty basic recipe. I make my own fondant and love making my own marshmallows, and it's just different ratios of similar ingredients for the most part.
