{DIY} How to Make Rose Petal Ice Cubes

These rose petal ice cubes are one of the easiest DIY projects I've ever come across. Such a practical idea for jazzing up a wedding reception punch bowl or tableside water pitchers. Simple, effective and cheap to make. Wedding planners should definitely add this budget-friendly idea to their a la carte services.

You'll need:

Three Easy Steps
1. Fill an ice cube tray half way with water. Freeze
2. Place one rose petal on each cube.
3. Pour one teaspoon of water over each petal. Freeze again.
It's that simple! Here is a quick tutorial.

You could also opt to freeze the entire rose head like the photo below. Spray roses would work perfect since they are a bit smaller in size. Here's another tutorial.

Or what about something a bit more dramatic!

Ever since the Pantone Color Institute announced that the reddish-orange shade called ' Tangerine Tango' has been chosen as the 2012 color of the year, I've received a few emails asking about subtle, modest ways to incorporate it into a wedding theme. With a color such as tangerine, it's important to compliment your intended color palette with "pops of color" instead of overpowering and taking away from the other design elements. One simple and effective way to do this is by accenting your floral decor.

To provide some inspiration, I reached out to the flower pros over at AFloral to see if they could recommend any specific products or bouquet trends that related to this new Pantone hue. 5 Tips To Remember When Shopping for your Wedding Dress

Shopping for a wedding dress is supposed to be fun, right? It should be one of those quintessential experiences in life that you’ll never forget (uhhh, no pressure!) However, if you’re having trouble deciding, you don’t feel like you’ve found THE ONE, or you’re onto your 6th store and no sparks yet, it can be a very overwhelming experience.

Whether you know EXACTLY the style of dress you want, or this is the first time you’ve gone shopping for a fancy dress, the experts at SmartBrideBoutique.com can help. 1. Keep Your Numbers Small!
There are too many horror stories about brides who dress shop with a serious entourage. Remember, there is such a thing as too many opinions, so choose your shopping assistants wisely. Make it clear they are providing their opinion on what looks good on you, not their own ideas of what you SHOULD be wearing. The most important thing is that you feel amazing. Don’t live out other people’s fantasies or fashions.

You’ve probably poured over dresses in bridal magazines to get an idea of the style of dress you think you want. A word of caution: don’t get fixated on one style until you’ve tried a variety of silhouettes, necklines, textures (lace, beading etc) and shades of white!

Often times your dream dress from the magazine doesn’t flatter your body type. Try on several silhouettes first to determine what looks best on your body type, then move on to try different necklines, colors and textures.

3. Don’t Be Trigger Happy.
Before you fantasize too much about your wedding dress, determine the vision for your wedding – including venue, time of year and theme. If you buy before you’ve decided on these factors, you might wind up buying a second dress because the first one no longer fits. Trust us, it happens more than you think! For example, if you’re having a destination wedding on a beach somewhere, you likely don’t want a princess wedding dress.

Above all, remind yourself to slow down and enjoy the experience. Enlist a close friend whose opinion you trust. They’ll help you avoid pressure from sales people (and maybe your family) to “just buy something already!” Take your time to try on a variety of dresses so that you really know when you’ve found “the one”.

4. Don’t Continue to Shop after you’ve found “the one”.
While you don’t want to pull the trigger too fast and buy a dress you’ll regret later (see above), you also DO NOT want to continue to shop for your dress after you’ve purchased one. Continuing to look generally results in doubling your wedding dress budget, and might mean sacrificing in other areas of your wedding.

5. Stick to Your Budget (If you can!)
You likely already have an idea of what you want to pay for your dream dress. Whether your budget is $300 or $3000, try to stick to it! There is no sense going into a store and trying on dresses that are way out of your budget, it will only end in disappointment. Plus, remember to include extra costs like alterations or dry cleaning because sample or once worn dresses may require these extras BEFORE the wedding.

I absolutely fell head over heels when I saw this adorable outdoor wedding from Austin's own Mercedes Morgan Photography! Meet Jessica + Kevin, the super-in-love couple who tied the knot at the open-air Kali Kate Pavilion. From head to toe, everyone looks divine! Her dress is stunning, his style is impeccable and the knee-length bridesmaids dresses are oh-so darling!

"What is the proper etiquette for guests bringing cameras to weddings, if you're not the official wedding photographer?"

Great question. Something most couples don't discuss or even think about.

Instead of giving you my personal view on the matter, I thought I'd open the conversation and ask the professional wedding photographers their opinion and thoughts on this subject. Feel free to leave a comment below.

Make-Up Advice For Day Or Night Weddings

No matter what time of day you wed, you want to look your best from your walk down the aisle until you exit your reception. Sometimes it’s tricky to figure out what kind of makeup look to choose that will not only be the perfect look for your wedding style, but also will be appropriate for the time of day at which your ceremony occurs and still look great in photographs that are taken in different lighting situations. An experienced makeup artist can steer you in the right direction based on what your wedding time and style will be, but here are some guidelines to get you started.

The first thing to consider is what time your ceremony and reception will take place. If you’re planning a morning or early afternoon ceremony and reception, a fresh, clean makeup look without a lot of drama is probably best for you. You’ll want to ask your makeup artist to stick to neutral or warm tones (which look great on anyone) and make sure the shades are very well blended. You can go for a more “dewy” look during a morning or early daytime wedding because the photographer will probably use more of the ambient light in the photos as opposed to direct flash, which can make that dewy look appear shiny or oily. Blush tones should be pink or apricot – think of the color your cheeks would flush if your groom had just whispered something really sweet in your ear! Lots of gloss on the lips is perfect for a daytime wedding, and a stain as opposed to an opaque lip color imparts a really nice, fresh and effortless look. Lastly, eyeliner doesn’t need to be prominent, but I do recommend that you use a little on your upper lid at the very least. Tightlining is a great technique that defines the lashes and eye without overloading the eye with color or creating the effect of closing in the eye.

If you are planning a mid-to-late afternoon ceremony with a reception as the sun sets, your makeup can take on a little bit more drama. I absolutely LOVE weddings during these times of the day because it gives brides the option of having two different makeup looks (or even two different looks entirely) to span both the afternoon and evening celebrations. Additionally, the light is ideal for late afternoon and early evening receptions because the golden sunset light is so romantic in photographs and is very flattering to the skin. It’s like a world full of candlelight! I’ve had brides do a more simple, fresh look for the early or mid afternoon ceremony, then slip away just before the reception starts for a 15 minute “transition” with an addition of extra eyeliner, a quick swipe of a brighter blush, and a bolder lip to bring them to an evening look. In general, makeup colors in general can be bolder, brighter, and more saturated. The later the wedding and reception, the more appropriate the smoky, dramatic look becomes. The key to the later weddings is maintaining a matte appearance to the skin, because flash photography can magnify any sheen that exists, particularly if that sheen is from a makeup additive like mica or other minerals. I also steer afternoon and evening brides away from sunscreen that is any higher than SPF 15, and suggest that their foundation contain as little titanium dioxide as possible. This is essential to avoiding the “ghost face” seen in flash photos where your face looks white and chalky and your body is another color!

Of course you will want to take your own everyday makeup style into consideration when planning your wedding makeup look. But do think of your wedding as an opportunity to try out something that you might normally not consider, because if you can’t play dress-up for your wedding day, when can you? Glamour girls, give a more natural, fresh look a try for your morning shindig; natural girls, try a bold lip for your formal fete. Whether you are planning a daytime or an evening wedding, finding a makeup look that coordinates with your both your personal style and your wedding style should not only make you feel perfect on your big day, but will help you look back on those photos and say, “I am beautiful!”

Bridal Advice | Pre- Wedding Beauty Tips

Every bride wants to look her absolute best on her wedding day whether it be losing a few pounds or trying new beauty regiments. Why? You’ve probably hired an amazing photographer to capture one of THE most important days of your life forever and you don’t want to look at those picture thinking shoulda, coulda, woulda. Here are some tips and tricks of the trade I’ve picked up over the past couple of years.

Take Care of that Skin: If you don’t have a good skin regime yet, now’s the time to begin some good skincare habits. Start a few months before your wedding to ensure you aren’t allergic to what you are trying and to allow your skin to purge its impurities. Move over Maid of Honor, exfoliation will be your new BFF. Grainy scrubs are great to do 3-5 times a week, Micro-derm Abrasions will change your life, and night-time serums (Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair) will give your skin that drink of water it needs.

Brows and tanning: Just like your skin-care, don’t try this for the first time on the morning of your wedding day. Eye brow threading is a lot gentler than waxing. If you are a fan of waxing do it at least 2 days before your Big day to allow your skin to recoup and your makeup artist will thank you for making her job a little easier. Sunless tanning can be helpful to give you a pre-wedding glow or even out previous tan lines on shoulders and back. Try airbrush tanning or tanning lotions.

Avoid the Lipstick Kiss-off: Ensure your lipstick won’t end up on your groom by exfoliating and moisturizing your lips first (try MAC’s Prep n Prime Lip), then add a light layer of foundation, line your lips and fill in with your wedding day lipliner, next apply your lipstick, blot with a tissue, then reapply your lipstick. If you aren’t a fan of touch ups there are lip products that are marketed to stay on 8-12 hrs and are more like a lip paint and do stay on for hours on end. Give one of those a try before your Big day as well to make sure you like the texture and wearability.

Don’t be afraid of too much color: Even to look “natural” you will probably need to wear a bit more color than you normally do so you remain the “star of the show”. So, after your makeup trial, put a mirror on the opposite side of the room and check yourself out from a distance. Do your cheeks and lips have enough color? Have someone take few pictures of you from different distances and angles to 1. Make sure you’re comfortable with your makeup, 2. To make sure you’re wearing enough color, and 3. Check the wearability of your foundation, lip, and cheek color.

Have your beauty team come to you: Save yourself the stress of driving around town with your bridal party to get hair and makeup done by having them come to you. The little extra dough it might cost will probably save you in your stress level that day.

Touch-up Products: Make sure you purchase your lip, cheek, and powder (try MAC’s blot Powder) touch-up products prior to your wedding day to keep your look in tact the whole evening. Your Maid of Honor can help carry them and remind you to use them because you will more than likely be very pre-occupied.

Dress brands exclusive to Blue Bridal Boutique include Enzoani Modeca, Justin Alexander Signature and Theia Couture, with Mia Solano and Christina Wu also available. The Fall 2011 collection from each is currently offered and styles vary widely to appeal to a variety of tastes. All selections range in price from $500 to $2,500.

Not to be left out, bridesmaids will have their choice of designs from Liz Fields and Sophia Tolli, priced from $125 to $195.

{Tea Cup} Succulent Wedding Favors

Today's DIY wedding project comes to us from ABC San Diego and teaches us how to create a succulent teacup that can doubles as a table place setting and a bridal favor!

We've all seen those inexpensive mini succulents at the local garden center that are begging to be brought home to liven up a window sill or shelf, and this project adds a twist by utilizing porcelain tea cups and colorful moss. Such a charming wedding reception idea or maybe for a breakfast bridal shower. You guys are going to love the simplicity!

For the record, I'm in love with these photos. Where do I start?

The first thing I noticed was how the unkept landscape keeps everything soft + natural while the vintage decor adds a bit of eccentric allure. Mike says he's always had an on-going love affair with furniture and the outdoors.... now I know why. The entire session pushes creativity, Selena looks amazing and I'm excited that we get to share it with everyone! I'll let the photos do the talking. Enjoy!

Thank you so very much to the always incredible Pam from A La Vie Photography for sharing today’s MAGNIFICENT local Austin wedding with us! Laguna Gloria was the venue of choice and the whole thing is gushing with romance.

Courtney and Stephen made it a point to see each other before the ceremony to say their own, private vows at the Temple of Love on Laguna's property. Pam captured the intimate moments and then the festivities began!

Did we mention her purple bouquet is FABULOUS!

I love this photo. The bottom of Courtney's dress has a soft, free-flowing design while the top keeps it elegant and exact.
